CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

Logan

I am standing on the patio overlooking my parents' large back yard. Not to mention the swimming pool and cabana looming on the right side of the yard. Nora is standing beside me.

“How was lunch?” I ask.

“It was wonderful,” Nora replies.

My fingers intertwine with hers. And she lets me. I am thankful that the contract allows me to hold her hands. My eyes briefly close, savoring her touch. I never thought I would have a strong feeling simply holding a woman’s hands. But that is what is happening with Nora. I have no words to explain how I am feeling. Yet I don’t want to lose that feeling.

“You were right about your parents,” Nora comments. “They are nice.”

“Did you get a chance to talk with my sister?”

“A little. What does she do?”

“Nothing. She stays at home with Brianna. I think she enjoys the time. Tim works as an consultant in an IT company.”

Sue and Tim had to leave right after lunch because of Brianna. Too bad, but I hope I get another chance for Nora and my sister to bond together.

“Did my mom give you a hard time?”

“Not at all. For whatever reason she likes me.”

I know my mom. She is already thinking ahead. Just like my mom.

“It isn’t because of whatever reason, Nora. It’s because you are breathtaking.”

My eyes catch Nora blushing. I don’t feel awkward saying the truth to her face. She is amazing in every way possible that I haven’t ever observed in another woman.

“Your parents’ home is amazing,” Nora exclaims.

“My parents also have a vacation home in Montana.”

“Oh.”

“One day I will take you there. The views overlooking the mountains are spectacular.”

“One day,” Nora murmurs.

I can sense the doubt in her voice. She doesn’t believe it because she thinks we are having a fake dating arrangement. I know we are. But maybe after six months it could be a possibility. Once I get Coltech from Harold and get rid of James.

“You don’t believe me, do you?” I ask.

Nora shakes her head. “We need to stay focused on fake dating.”

“I know.”

It is like Nora to keep my eyes on the prize. Coltech. I need to beat James for the sake of everyone. But enough of thinking of him. I lean over to Nora’s ear.

“Logan, what are you doing?”

“What a couple dating would normally do,” I whisper into her ear.

Nora’s scent takes my senses on a rollercoaster ride that I never want to get off. My eyes close again as I nuzzle against her neck.

“Logan,” Nora whispers.

I know she can feel whatever is between us.

“We need to put on a good show,” I say, stepping back from her.

“For whom?”

“My mom.”

“Huh?”

“I bet you that she is looking at us right now,” I say.

Nora turns her head slightly and then turns her gaze back to the yard. “I don’t believe it.”

“You turned back too quickly.”

“What?”

“Now my mom knows we know she is staring at us.”

“Oh no.”

I stifle a laugh. “I’m sure my mom is happy with what she is seeing, right?”

Nora nods.
